Introduction to the THOTH tarot deck

Vintage Aleister Crowley THOTH Tarot Deck (published by the Ordo Templi Orientis).

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Many people suggest that learning to use the Aleister Crowley tarot is difficult and you should already have a working knowledge of tarot before attempting to use this deck. I have to disagree; it comes down to what tradition you are already familiar with and what other practices you are studying.
If you are interested in or are already studying western magickal systems, such as Thelema, Qabalah, Hermeticism, Gnosticism, or Alchemy, you may find the THOTH tarot deck much more intuitive than any other tarot deck available. Aleister Crowley tarot cards contain the symbolism of the intricate Thelemic system of Magick, which he developed over his lifetime. Crowley spent many years discovering relationships between the symbolisms of many different esoteric traditions. The THOTH tarot deck is the culmination of that great work and is comparable to the development of the Rosetta stone. Once you uncover the meaning of these cards, you will have the keys you need to understand any of the esoteric traditions known.
As you can see, the THOTH tarot deck is much more than a divination tool. It truly is a book of wisdom, just as the name THOTH implies—Egyptian god of wisdom. I will not claim to be the great end all and be all authority on the THOTH tarot deck. The study of the THOTH tarot is the keystone in my exploration of the occult, but I often have to revise my interpretation as my own understanding transforms. That said, the interpretations of the cards when doing a reading vary only slightly from what is plainly obvious, if the symbolism speaks to you.
Do not be overwhelmed by what people say about the THOTH tarot. Learning to use these cards as a divination tool is no more difficult than any other tarot deck. It may be more comprehensive in its symbolism, but the deeper meaning of its symbols will come with experiance.

Love is the law, love under will.
